Throughout 2008 we have been furthering our work at the centre for homeless youngsters, "Empire des Enfants" in the city of Dakar and have produced two more ensemble shows with the street children there, for whom the centre provides such a vital resource, offering shelter, food, activities and the possibility of relocation with their families in other parts of the country.

This was due to the success of the Senegal project in 2006 and ’07. We secured further funding from the Swedish institute to return to the "Empire des Enfants" to continue the youth aspect of this work in March and May 2008.

Last year the show was performed at the “Sorano Theatre” in Dakar, this year we focused on having the two performances at the centre itself and we are pleased to report that the format works in both settings. This follows our belief in the possibility of inclusion for artists of all levels and backgrounds within the Fan-atticks circus environment, and formed the drive to redevelop our "Circus Hotel" concept into a work that can allow any kind of guest to enter and perform in the show.

During 2008 we have been researching this idea as a working show, involving artists from many locations and the show itself, entitled “CAGE” was successfully premiered in Stockholm in September this year. We intend to tour this piece throughout 2009-10.

The project in Senegal is supported by "Svenska Institutet", and produced by Ida Burén. Read more and see a trailer from the show on the front page and about the concept on the page The Circus Hotel.
